Our Mission

As a veteran-led organization, we know the road from active duty to civilian life can be overwhelming. From VA claims to career and education choices, the process often feels like a maze. Therefore, our mission is to empower veterans in the Austin community by providing clear guidance, personalized support, and trusted advocacy to help them navigate the VA system and connect with local resources that improve their quality of life.

Our Vision

A community where every veteran and their family have the knowledge, support, and opportunities they need to thrive beyond military service.

Who We Are

Our role is simple: to be a trusted guide that empowers veterans with the tools, resources, and support to build a stronger future. At Guidon Austin, we are dedicated to ensuring that veterans and their families never have to navigate post-military life alone. Founded and led by veterans, our organization understands the unique challenges that come with transitioning out of service. That’s why we provide trusted guidance, personalized support, and strong advocacy to help veterans access the benefits and resources they’ve earned.

Founder Story

I’m Eric Wences, founder of Guidon Austin. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and served five years in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Marine, including a deployment to Afghanistan.

When I came home, I faced the same struggles many veterans know all too well - navigating the VA system, fighting through multiple disability claims, and trying to use my education benefits while building a new life. It took years of appeals and support from other veterans before I finally received the benefits I had earned.

Through that process, I realized how important it is to have someone in your corner. I began helping other veterans and their families work through the same challenges, and when I finally returned to Austin after 10 years away, I saw the need for something more. That’s why I created Guidon Austin—to make sure no veteran, service member, or family has to face this system alone.
